Hi,

Our TV, just under 5 years old, has dropped dead displaying only fine lines instead of an image. It's 43" Android-based Bravia model KD-43XE8396.

University of Youtube suggest that may problems of this nature can be fixed by replacing the t-con board. I can get one quite cheap so am prepared to give that a try. However I have couple questions if anyone is familiar with this particular model ..

(1) Any tips or recommended precautions about the actual process of accessing and replacing the board? I haven't managed to find anything with pictures or diagrams of this particular model so don't even know where the t-con board is, other than hoping it will be accessible with the back off.

(2) Any way to narrow down whether the fault is actually with the t-con board, or with the actual panel?

Thanks,

Yea I would suggest that as well. Also, why don't you try to contact an actual engineer, maybe they can help you with that you know.

Sorry I should have updated this, the only excuse is that the Facebook tracking on the web site means you can't login from most browsers or PCs. However I am in now.

I raised this fault with Sony. Initially they came back with basic questions and asked for impossible diagnostics (how do they expect me to access menu options when the screen doesn't work).

However they also sent me a 5 year guarantee certificate, and after I pressed them a bit on the phone they arranged to replace it with a new set.

So they came good in the end and if we needed to buy another set I'd certainly consider another Sony. Earlier I'd been thinking there's no point in a premium brand if it drops dead in a few years.
