Cheap piece of plastic has caused my warranty to fail

Because of that cheap piece of plastic that covers the power port, my warranty is void. It broke off my phone (as id did on my husbands). Now AT&T wants to charge me $300 for that cheap piece of plastic.

The real problem (and it seems to be a major problem with this phone) is that the charger in my phone is burnt out. And I bought the phone 11 months ago.

I am not sure what type of company Ericsson is in terms of quality control and customer service, but I do know that Sony is excellent on both. I am hoping tha there is something that you can do to help me with this. I love my phone and want to use it, but I refuse to pay the money for something that is so cheap. What can't the people who make phones come up with a better way to cover up the ports?

maybe they thought it was the USB port instead of the USB cover

I have this problem it has not broken of but keeps coming of for now reason and you say warranty is void if water gets in?????
