Has anyone else noticed the change in wording for the waterproof rating?

When I got my Xperia Z3+ it said I could put my phone under water, up to 1.5 metres for up to 30 mins.

Now it says not to fully emerse the phone in water, sea water, salt water, chlorinated water and drinks.

The IP68 rating should cover there phone for the above depths and time along as you rinse the phone under fresh water to avoid deterioration of the rubber seals. This now also seems to be void.

What I want to know is, is my phone waterproof to a depth of 1.5 metres for up to 30 mins or not? If not, then I want a refund as it's been miss sold under trading standards and if something isn't done about it, I will be approaching them for advice.

Steve

In short Yes, I believe it is.

"The Sony Xperia Z3+ has an impressive IP65/IP68 rating, which makes this dual SIM smartphone both waterproof* and resistant to the tiniest dust particles....

IP (Ingress Protection) rating

The Xperia Z3+ has been given the IP rating IP65/68. This is a standard that measures a device’s resistance levels to dust (6) and water (5&8 – both splashes and submersion)....
*The Xperia Z3+ is waterproof and protected against dust, so don’t worry if you get caught in the rain or want to wash off dirt under a tap, but remember: all ports and attached covers should be firmly closed. You should not: put the device completely underwater; or expose it to seawater, salt water, chlorinated water or liquids such as drinks. Abuse and improper use of device will invalidate warranty. The device has Ingress Protection rating IP65/68. For more info seewww.sonymobile.com/waterproof. Note the Xperia has a capless USB port to connect and charge. The USB port needs to be completely dry before charging."

http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/phones/xperia-z3-plus/features/#waterproof
The change I believe is due to people miss understand the specifications and miss handling and caring for their phone. And ultimately damaging their phones. I think it's just to deter people from doing stupid things with their phones and then complaining that they were miss led. If your phone isn't damaged, using fresh water with in the specified limits and letting it dry properly before use should be fine.
You wouldn't believe all the things I have read that people do to their phones and then wonder why it's not working or how come the warranty doesn't cover the water damage after they clearly didn't understand the phone's water proof or water resistant specifications. I actually hadn't noticed the change in wording but I'm assuming that's why.

But this is exactly what I'm trying to say. In one part it says you can fully submerge it down to 1.5 metres in depth for up 30 mins, but then at the * it says Not to fully submerge the phone.

I feel like I've just repeated myself lol.

I need to know which it is, as I bought the phone KNOWING it was waterproof to the mentioned depths, but NOW, Sony are saying it's not. In which case, it was miss sold.

I just need to know which, so I don't mess up the warranty.

The phone is waterproof according to IP68 certification. See the next statement:

The Xperia Z3+ is waterproof and protected against dust, so don’t worry if you get caught in the rain or want to
wash off dirt under a tap, but remember: all ports and attached covers should be firmly closed.
You should not: put the device completely underwater; or expose it to seawater, salt water, chlorinated water or
liquids such as drinks. Abuse and improper use of device will invalidate warranty. The device has Ingress
Protection rating . For more info see www.sonymobile.com/waterproof. Note the Xperia has a capless USB port
to connect and charge.
I can confirm that it is waterproof. I took it into the fresh water swimming pool while on holiday with no issues. Just remember to make sure it 100% dry before charging.

I have however, got rid of the phone due to overheating issues and gone back to iPhone, which I was dubious about, but now very happy with it.
