Just bought my Xperia Z1 a week ago. After figuring out how to extend battery life, I moved on to the camera. The festival of lights here in Mumbai was a good time to use it. But to my utter dismay I was getting horrible pictures with a sort of haze and a yellow tint. I tried it both on manual as well as auto but both seem to have the same issue. As do night and daytime. I am putting up the pictures. Please do suggest if there's something I am doing wrong or there's a problem with this specific camera.

Do you use any protective case or plastic film that covers the camera or flash?

Actually I got this very strong feeling that the z1 camera is erratic in term of performance cos i experienced poor quality shots even when using its superior auto function. I oso realised that the camera lens(the black portion) is situated slightly different within the transparent glass that houses the camera in almost every model of the z1 i have come across and mine is really not centralised.

The still you have posted looks very smoky. You might have captured these shots when your house is full of smoke could be of due to instant sticks smoke or may be crackers smoke.

Try again tomorrow or some time. Because Z1 is very good on camera. Please take above caution and try, let us know the results.

Happy Deepawali.

I beleive I know the solution.

Mine seems to take really nice photos BUT the issue is using the flash while it is in the case

The flash seems to reflect off the edges of the cutout on the case, and back into the lens making it all hazy.

Problem is sovled for me if I either turn the flash off or take the phone out of the case.

Could also put a circular ring / rubber O-ring or something inside the opening in the case that fits around the lens and would stop the flash from reflecting back into the lens.

The other problem could be if you haven't taken the back protector off that comes on the phone - that makes it all hazy too.
