Maybe edit to "if it is approved and released for your country/branding." I know it seems perposterous that Sony wouldn't release an update for such a large group of customers as the unbranded owners in the UK/Germany, but I've come across posts in this forum in which people have recently claimed that they're still on .350 and are "up to date" per PCC and SUS :smileysad:.

This is an interesting read; thank you for posting.

On a different yet related note, while I can undersand that there are various factors at play when it comes to rolling out an update on a global scale, something begs to be said about the lack of information coming from Sony about the delay in major markets. I can accept that there are dependencies external to Sony that can impact the release date. However, to not provide general status updates leads to an information gap that people will attempt to fill with suppositions that may (unfairly, perhaps) portray Sony in a negative light.

This is my first Sony product of significant cost. I do not (yet) have buyer's remorse, but I am becoming concerned about updates for this product. I took a leap of faith after looking at the history of releases for prior Sony products. I certainly hope I don't regret my decision.

When selecting an Android based phone, the most important question imo to ask is what do I want. If OS updates is the most important expect for you, choose Nexus range of phones. If you prefer additional customized software from OEM, you can choose from the various number of brands in the market. Sony Mobile Communication since they first launched Xperia S has been consistently constant in never revealing their update schedule. The closest they ever get to is naming the SI numbers Xperia S upgrade. to ICS and took a barrage of mails flooding this forum for months asking when owners SI will receive the update. To them, the moto since then is: Silence is Gold. All OEM takes time to put their imprint onto their phone and with Sony consolidating their business, the IT side suffered first. So they would only announce something when they are really ready. FYI, Google will change everything in the near future when they launch their own phone through Motorola. So you will get updates like Apple for iPhone once available. That will sadly be in 2014, it seems.

Fair enough, but why are receiving timely updates and great hardware/software build quality and performance mutually exclusive? More of a rhetorical question than anything else.

If what you state is true ("The closest they ever get to is naming the SI numbers Xperia S upgrade. to ICS and took a barrage of mails flooding this forum for months asking when owners SI will receive the update."), I would say that Sony fumbled the ball in not disclosing a time range for the release of the update. To state, for example, "within the next 3 months" gives customers a time horizon.

Silence is not always the best policy to follow. Sure, committing yourself to a specific date potentially sets you up for a lot of trouble for numerous reasons. Being completely mum, on the other hand, is leading to some vocal consternation that appears to be growing.

I as a consumer can, of course, play the ambiguity game as well: I cannot say whether I would buy another Sony product in the future.

While I appreciate the fact that you guys took your time to post your replies here, I was really looking from an answer from a Sony representative. And yes, I do know that previous threads on the same topic have been filed and this would be probably just another vain attempt at getting some attention to my issue (as is for a lot of costumers).

What I would appreciate though is getting such a response as this:

From someone at Sony's, not just another costumer, however good hearted he/she was in doing so, and have my thread practically closed. Your answer was not helpful - I didn't mark it as such -, it just got in the way of hearing from Sony official itself.

I do acknowledge that you're most likely correct but simply telling me to wait did not bring me any satisfaction.

However, thanks for your time everyone. I'm marking this as not answered for the time being in the hopes that I get an official word from Sony.

@santosRA, posting the same thing on multiple threads its consider Spam, and well you know that spam its not tolerated on this forum, if you don't like the posts/answers contact Sony directly, after all this forum is for US, users, to help each other, you are NOT going to find any other answer here.

@uliwooly I'd respecfully disagree that the purpose of this forum is solely for inter-customer communication. I'm not disagreeing about the spam aspect of your response, but Sony reps have (inconsistently) responded to posts in select threads, and so to expect them to address this concern is not unreasonable, IMHO.

I have actually contacted Sony on different vehicles, still waiting on the answer.

I am NOT getting an answer from YOU as it seems, please stop trying.

I'm quite aware of spamming, but this is a pressing issue which Sony hasn't addressed properly. More than trying to find an answer for myself, my intent is to keep the issue alive and fresh in their memories. Someone must be reading this.

If I sound passionate, if I complain too much, if I repeat myself.. Well, it's because I care. I'm in love with my device, as I have been with the Arc before, and the X10 before that. The only thing sub par I found on all of them was Sony/Costumer relationship. That's why I'll keep trying, even if the chances are slim to get any answer here. All I want is for someone - official reps - to at least tell me it's coming, that I have not been forgotten once I paid for my device.

P.S. If/When I get an answer from my contacts with Sone on different vehicles, I'll post it here if informative or wanted may be.

Unfortunately some threads and posts gets moderated and also deleted since they do not correspond with the Support Forum guidelines. It could also be that the OP of the thread has been banned and his posts deleted for violating the guidelines. We try to maintain a purpose with this forum. Being a place for users to discuss with each other about their phones but still all members of this forum needs to follow the guidelines. Sorry to hear this and that we haven't reached you fast enough. I have been looking into the overheating problems that's being mentioned here on the forum and I thank you for bringing us your feedback. Unfortunately I can't answer all our users in time because this forum has a lot of posters and my main purpose here is to check for current problems and to make sure that they are acknowledged by concerned team within the company. So even if you don't get any answer from me doesn't mean that I'm not ware of issues.

If you need fast answers you should always call your local support team. The main purpose of this forum is for users to share their experiences and of course to help each other. I do also of course try to help our users as much as I can.

I'm sorry to hear that we've lost you as a customer but I hope that you will get a phone that satisfies your needs and perhaps that you will come back to us in the future.

Then I propose that Sony is muddying the waters by dabbling in our communication. When reps are "helping" at their discretion, they are also implicitely setting an expectation of Sony support. As a comparison, when I owned a Nokia and used their support forums, there was absolutely no participation on the part of Nokia reps. That set the parameters of the forum clearly.

anyway, as you can read above and as I'd said before if you need help or official answers contact Sony's customer service, and also

if users post all over the forum the same thing or create new threads on the same on going topic chances are that Sony moderators are not going to be able to get to that thread any time soon.
