Email notification sound

Hi Chaps

Does anyone know how I can set a 'ping' or some other sound to notify me of an incoming email plase?

I've looked and looked but can't seem to do it!

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

Go to the E-mail application > Tap the three dots in the top right corner > Settings > Tap your E-mail account > Scroll down to Notification settings.

Sorry Johan - one more thing...

I've gone to the notification settings, and chosen a 'ringtone' for emails. I then click 'done', but when it goes back the the Notification Settings page, there's nothing 'ticked', so it's not letting me assign a tone. Can you help any further pelase?

Do you or did you get a pop-up saying" Complete action using" when you click select ringtone?

Yes... with the options of:

File Commander,

Media Storage and

Sound Picker.

I used Sound picker.

I've just tried to use Media Storage, but it still doesn't register/save my choice. If I use File Commander, it brings up a list of all sorts - Downloads, Pictures, Music, Videos, Internal Storage etc...

It shouldn't be any problems if you use sound picker. I'm not able to replicate this when I test.

What tone do you select? Is a tone you've added to phone yourself or is any of the included ones?

You could try to clear data and/or cache for the sound picker app and check if it helps.
Settings > Apps > All > Sound picker.

That still doesn't work 😞

I've tried a few sounds, and they're all ones that are included on the phone so I would have thought they'd work.

This is the ONE thing that's annoying me with this phone - I like it otherwise, but the sound thing is just such a pain! I had an iPhone before, and that was so easy.

Thanks for trying to help Johan. Not sure what to do now - looks llike I may be stuck with no email notofications!

Oh no, don't give up just yet.

I want you to try this. It will clear the configuration of your E-mail account but if you have your details it shouldn't be too much trouble to just enter them again.

Go to Settings > Apps > All > E-mail > Press Clear data and OK.

Go to the E-mail app and setup your E-mail again and check if you can choose another notification tone for E-mail.

Hi Johan

That seems to have worked! Once I'd done that, I tried to set a sound again, and even though it doesn't give you a 'box' with a tick in to confirm it's saved your sound choice, it DOES work! I'm now getting 'pinged' whenever I get an email!

It doesn't work on me. I got xperia z1compact the notification is on,but still no sound notification whenever someone send me email. I still need to refresh my email day-by-day just to make sure I can read if theres email sending on me.

Hi Johan, I am facing the same problem actually and have tried everything that you have suggested above with no luck - I can turn on the notification sound in settings -> sound and notification, but then all notifications will end up having the same sound, not something that I am aiming for, would you have any other suggestion please? By the way, I am using the built in email app, thanks a mil
