On 'Overcharging' and 'Undercharging'

I just charged my Z2 while powered off for the first time. It had 9% juice when I switched it off. Took 2 hours and 10 minutes when the LED finally turned green. I unplugged it 10 minutes later. Say I left it plugged in overnight, will it affect battery performance? Will it also lengthen battery lifecycle if I don't use it while charging?

I already have some battery-saving/monitoring apps. They really help optimize energy alongside the already-helpful Stamina mode. I also noticed the 100% status last a little longer when most wireless functions are turned off, which is really great. I get really frustrated when the battery percentage drops unusually quicker even if I'm not using the phone that much, so sometimes I just turn the % display off. Any other battery-optimizing tips, charging-wise?

Yes,it would be wise not to let the phone completely discharge, connect it to the charger somewhere around 10-15%.Also,if you let it overnight there will be no problem as the battery will not overcharge.Stay away from battery savers, optimizers etc.

Remember that the light turns green at 90%. Not 100%. So you should leave it on charger even after it turns green. It is safe to leave it on the charger overnight.
Lithium batteries are best kept fully charged, so I stick my phone in the dock in the evening if the battery is below 50%. There it stays until morning. With the crazy battery life the Z2 has, it takes several days for mine to drop below 50%.

EDIT: And, oh yeah, stay away from all "battery savers" and "optimizers". Sony's Stamina mode works best on this phone.

What's wrong with using battery savers? Are they gonna cause performance issues?

Thanks for the green-light tip! I replugged it again when I realized that it was only charged at 93%.

Battery "savers" don't really work. All they do is turn the data off att pre-set occasions. They run in the background and actually consume battery as they do it. Stamina mode does all that, but much smarter. Take some time and learn how to use it. It's very easy.

Also, if you have WiFi at home, then leave WiFi on at all times. WiFi draws much less battery than 3G or LTE. So if you leave WiFi on, the phone automatically switches 3G/LTE data off whenever it's within range of your WiFi network. And when you leave home, it switches WiFi off and 3G/LTE on. You can also use Location-based WiFi in the Power management menu to save some more battery. My Power management menu looks as follows (you can of course set to your own preferences):

-Stamina: ON (access further settings by tapping on the text):

*Activation: Always on

*Extended standby: On
*Apps active in standby (press the plus sign): Calendar, Contacts, Mail

*Restrict performance: Off

-Low battery mode: Off (you can access further settings by tapping the text)

-Location-based WiFi: On (you can access further settings by tapping the text)

-Queue background data On

And of course I avoid having any apps logged into their respective services. I do not have a Facebook app. I use FB via the browser. I log out of G+ after each visit with the app. I keep BT off. I have reduced my screen brightness and I have switched X-Reality off (it's pretty useless IMO). Etc, etc.

Yes,the battery savers and task killers have access to the phone, can do what they want. You will end up with your phone slow, restarting or any other issues that you might think of.

I'm still afraid to leave my z2 for charge over night, I heard that z1 had some battery problems that pull the back out after long charge..
Is it really safe to charge for 8-10 hours?
