Sony xperia z3 ringtone doesn't change

I've been trying to change the ringtone to the mp3 file of my choice but it doesn't work. It shows that ringtone is unknown file but still rings as default. I tried copying the file into notifications, no resault. Please help.

Settings-apps-all,tap on 3 dots and reset app preferences.Could you tell where is the mp3 stored?

Also you could download an app such as ringdroid and create your own ringtones (segments of songs)

I have the same problem as TatianaNyc. It shows that ringtone is unknown file but still rings as default and now I cant use settings, sound (application has stopped). I have tried Settings-apps-all,tap on 3 dots and reset app preferences, but still cant access sounds.

Please help.

The same occurred in safe mode, so I decided to make a full reset to original factory settings. After a couple of hours work reinstalling, everything is back to normal. I have also changed the ringtone.

The Ringroid Worked Perfectly. Thanks A Heap. Resetting Apps Preferences Strangley Refused To Work On My Unit But Worked On My Buddy's.

Same problem. Reset not solved this on my phone. I solved the issue changing the ID tag in ringtones. As WP phones 😕 . Ringdroid change this property too

Encountered the same problem when I chose mp3 as ringtone, appeared as unknown. Then I tried once more changing the phone ringtone thru sound picker then clicked the music icon on the topmost right corner that lead to sounds where I was able to choose the mp3 as ringtone and it was already recognized showing its title.

I agree with carlyn_05, before i saw this post i found the solution on youtube showing how to do it on the Z2.

Setting > Call or Sound (Its the same anyway) > Phone ringtone > Choose Sound picker > Look to the top right corner on your phone and press the music note icon > Scroll down to where your music is > Your music will now be in your Z3 default ringtone list. This also works the same for Notification sound setting.

(Note: The MP3 ringtone will not be save permanently like most phone after you set, when you change to another ringtone the previous one will be remove from the Phone ringtone list.)

I can say there are many like me who would feel the same about just wanting our Z3 to set the ringtone and not want to reset or use any App to fix the problem.

ok this is how to change ringtone of your choice on sony zperia z3 compact connect phone to computer go to start on your desktop and then my computer you will see your phone icon click on it and if you have sd card installed you will see internal memory and external memory click on internal memory you will see folders open the folder named ringtones please note that ringtones are wav files not mp3 format so you will need to convert your file before ypu start i recomend audacity for this however once you have done this drag the wav file from you desktop into the ringtones folder then click back and you will see a notifications floder click on this and drag the same file again from your desktop into it then close the window on your phone go to settings / sound and notifications / ringtones and you will see a list of tones including the one you just added click on it click done and your now finished

My problem is I can't assign a ringtone to a contact. It doesn't save. All ringtones are the one I chose as the default - an mp3.

it only works for me if i move the mp3 file from the sd card to the internal storage. never had a problem with my previous M4 (only with the M5). is this a thing? you can only set a mp3 ringtone if its on your phone internal storage? or im missing something?
