It seems that's only supported by the Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact, if you open the walkman app, menu, settings, sound effects, Hi-Res Audio via USB

You can read more about it here

http://blogs.sonymobile.com/2014/10/01/xperia-details-hi-res-audio/

Xperia Z2 was compatible with Hi-Res Audio but you needed a converter to listen to it. So in Xperia Z3, we’ve built that converter into the phone. If you have Hi-Res compatible headphones you can just plug them in to the headphone jack like any other pair and listen away.

A bit more info here

http://blogs.sonymobile.com/2014/11/04/our-latest-sony-software-upgrade-brings-ps4-remote-play-hi-res-audio-new-smart-social-camera-apps-more-for-xperia-z2-and-xperia-z2-tablet/

"Music sounds better both a) turned up and b) in Hi-Res. It just does. Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet will now support built in (via 3.5mm audio jack) Hi-Res Audio playback from both PCM and DSD files, in addition to the USB Hi-Res playback. The WALKMAN app also adds Sony’s DSEE HX technology, enhancing the sound of your MP3, AAC or Music Unlimited tunes, restoring the experience sometimes lost in compression by these formats. And, because different headphones sound slightly different acoustically, Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet now give you the option to specifically select optimized settings for different Sony headsets.
"

So you mean we need a converter to play Hi-Res in Z2?
And will the noise cancelling headset that we have support Hi-Res?
And are those Hi-Res Audio files in DSD and PCM format???

Hi SanRavRC,

High Resolution feature that build-in on the phone allows you to enhance the audio quality with the normal MP3 music that we have.

However to fully enjoy the high res audio is still best if you own some high res audio files.

Where to get it? It can be a high res audio CD that you purchase from a retail store and rip it with selected software that supports that.

High res is 24bit and above you can also purchase the digital track example from this webpage : http://www.hdtracks.com/

Further info about this, you may refer to the link below and there is some webstore that allow you to purchase digital copy of high res audio.

http://discover.store.sony.com/High-Resolution-Audio/#whatsHra

Hope this answer your question.

Regards.
