'PC Companion' issues - help much appreciated!

Hi guys - anyones' help would be greatly appreciated! I'm having problems backing up my Z3's files before sending the phone away to the insurer for repair.

I dropped the phone, smashed the screen and have also broken the phones' touch-screen function. So it's absolutely unuseable aside from the lock and camera buttons! I removed the SIM, put it in my old Xperia Z and now I'm now up and running on that.

However! When I connect the Z3 to my PC to try and back it up and open up the 'PC Companion' to access the files, it says a SIM must be in the phone and that the PIN code must have been inserted. The phone has no SIM as it's in my old one and even if it did I couldn't enter the PIN as the screen is broken!

How can I get the files from my PC without having this SIM and PIN?! There must be a way!

You can only buy a USB OTG cable and connect a mouse and a keyboard.

But how does this work then? Do you mean to connect a mouse and keyboard to my phone to control it and input the PIN etc that way?

Yes,only that way you'll be able to unlock it. Otherway,PCC will reset it and delete internal.

So i can just plug a mouse/keyboard into my phone and control it like that! I didn't know this.

Any sources of information as to how exactly it all works?

This worked mate, thank you so much for your help! It's not common for people to reply to someone who's 'signed up just so they can get some help', I'd usually just get ignored, so massive appreciation for that.

I plugged in a standard laser mouse using this mini-to-normal USB adapter and then used the cursor input my pin, lock code etc that way so that it'd talk with PC Companion. I then left the phone unlocked while I backed it up and job done!

I was worried at first that I'd be at risk of losing all my stuff if I could't back it up before sending it away
