About 1.5 months ago i tried to play a mediafile on a reasonable trustworthy site (video)
((shortly after surfing multiple dubious sites))
I could not play the videofile requested unless i updated the mediaserver software, so i did.
It was the part necessary for steaming video.
After i did, i could enjoy the media requested but my trust in privacy demised, and still the memory of this occurence is nagging.
So my questions are: has there been a update of the systems mediaserver, and, is the a way to download Sony system software from a site that can be trusted?
(I am looking for something like i know from my windows background i guess, some sort of service/download/update site)

Sound's dubious as similar downloads are frequently popping up for other things like kernel updates etc - Any Sony updates like the one you mention would be done via Pc Companion or via the Update centre app or the Whats new app so as someone who works in IT security it does indeed sound like you have done something that is not Sony related and as such installed a 3rd party app or been conned into downloading and installing this app
