Notification bar and bottom buttons not working

Hi, I have been having a problem with my Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. For some reason it won't allow me to pull down the notification bar anymore. And since yesterday the bottom buttons have also stopped functioning. I can't really exit any app and the phone has become pretty much unusable. Does anyone know a solution for this issue? Would this fall under the warranty that comes with the phone?

I already tried a factory reset but it does nothing the solve the issue.

Yes, I have a protective case around the back. No extra film apart from the standard one that came with the phone.

The touchscreen test failed because the top and bottom of the image could not be cleared

Follow @Phy's advice, if that doesn't work, remove the case and film and test it again.

Try repairing your phone with Sony PC Companion and Check if that works.

Hi @Maje,

I also suggest that you try the software repair using PC Companion.

In PC Companion you press start on "Support Zone" > Start on "Update the phone/tablet software" > "Repair phone/tablet" (the blue clickable link in the message) > Follow these steps without having your device connected to the PC.

Follow the instruction that appears in the program and do not connect your device until this guide tells you how to connect it.

The software repair will remove all data stored in the phone so don't forget to make a backup in PC Companion before you try the software repair. You can do a backup using the Backup & Restore option in PC Companion.

I had already tried the PC Companion repair to no avail. I am bringing it down to the repair centre today.

The shop has repaired my phone and it is working again. It was covered by the warranty.

Guyz i can understand on wat issue you are facing coz i am one of it too, started facing it since yesterday and its very irritating , i can drag the notification down after unlocking the screen neither i can use the 3 button's at bottom of screen. However surprisingly i could use smoothly when my screen i locked which means the hardware is good.
Now as an interim solution i enabled the glove mode option (setting - > Display) and things are working properly.
Looks like the permanent solution would be by visiting service center , however i had a bad experience last month when the center took more than 2 week to return me my device back(Device won't boot up so sony replaced the board ) . This is a serious issue with Z3 compact model (not sure about other models) and i have lost my faith in sony phones . Earlier i used Galaxy note 1 for 3 years with no issue , never ever had to visit the service center . Sony has to take an action ASAP now that the market is very competitive ...cheers!!

I'm sorry to hear that.
If these parts of the display works properly on the lock screen you could try a software repair using PC Companion. Otherwise your phone would have to be examined further at one of our authorised service centers as you said.

Regarding the service time that is something that varies between different regions in the world so you should contact your Local support for more information regarding service.

I Tried Factory reset as well as Software repair both no luck at present i don't think its a good idea for me to hand over my phone to service center since i need to travel out of malaysia in 2 weeks time and i am pretty sure service center won't give me back my phone before 2 weeks.

strange thing is when the screen is in locked mode both the top scroller and button's at the bottom section works fine and as soon as i unlock the screen the top and bottom section freezes , only the main screen works without any touch issue this atleast indicates that the hardware is OK and problem is probably with the software/firmware.

Right now things are aleast in workable condition via glove mode though its very sensitive to touch.

I did recommend this phone to quite a few friend of mine but wont do it going further if SONY doesnt come out with satisfactory customer experience

I hope the RND/Technical team from SONY is now much aware of this well known issue/Bug to come out with a Fix.

Want to highlight one more thing that since today morning i am not at all able to scroll down my notification window after unlocking my device , Not even via glove mode. It only works when i rotate my phone to landscape mode and when my phone is locked.

Let me know if any information required from my end to Troubleshoot further.

@IT_Geek I'm sorry to say but since this remains even after a software repair your phone would have to be examined by a technician at an authorised service center as the next step. I understand that you may be unable to leave your phone at a service center at the moment but at this point that is what I can recommend you to do.

If you haven't already contacted your Local support they should be able to give you some information on how long the service time is expected to be.

Hello, the same thing is happening to my Z3 Compact. Since it is happening to many people, it seems to be a software and/or hardware issue. In my phone, I observed that this "malfunction" started after a bunch of software actualization (facebook, messenger, whatsapp, acrobat, app google, avg, etc). The phone generated some heat during these updates. Sony should give more dedication in the investigation of this problem. Regards.

I was very excited after hearing news on Z5 launch..was thinking of buying as gift for my family member nodoubt i am reluctant now... After using glove mode since few days now my finger has become very sensitive to touch which is spoiling my experience on other phones too..
