[Z3+] Smart Connect plays from Music app rather than Google Play Music

I have Smart Connect set up so as to open Google Play Music and immediately Play when I plug my headset in.

However when I plug my headset into the device, although Google Play Music does open, the track that is played is from the pre-installed Music app instead.

It is very annoying and inconvenient workaround having to stop the tracking playing from the Music app, close it off and then play as intended from Google Play music.

Is there a solution to this?

That's odd, do you use the Music app? if you don't you can disable it

Thanks for the reply @uliwooly

I don't use the music app (all my tunes are on Google Music so as to keep as much internal memory free on my device).

Anyhow I've taken a look into your advice on disabling the music app via Smart Connect (i.e. Settings > apps > all > smartconnect > clear data). I'll try this later, thanks for your help

^ unfortunately the above didn't work.

I cleared the data in Smart Connect from the Settings > Apps menu, then re-set up the profile in Smart Connect.

Then connected headphones to the device and the default music app on the phone opened up again and started playing.

When I unlocked the device and paused the music (and closed the app), the Google Play Music app was open, however didn't play anything because the default music app on the device somehow took precedence.

Settings > apps > all > music > disable > restart the phone > try again.

Didn't work unfortunately - Music started playing again, even after I check Smart Connect before plugging in the headset

The reason for this is that Smart Connect can't direct the play command to a specific app so it just sends a general play command in the system and this will usually be captured by our music app.
If you disable our Music app as uliwooly described it should work (it does for me) as long as you don't have any other music player that may catch the play command instead.
Another possible solution is to edit the event in Smart Connect and remove the start action "Play tracks". Smart Connect will then only start Play Music so that you can tap play manually.

Problem resolved - not sure why it didn't work the first time when I disabled the Music app and restarted ... it worked the 2nd time (although I've yet to restart)

Sorry for resurfacing this old thread, but I've come across this issue again, with a similar app. This time Spotify.

I've selected (Google) Play Music as the app of choice to run in my Smart Connect profile, however 2 things are happening now:
1) Google Play Music isn't opening at all

2) When I press play on my headset, Spotify plays

I don't want to disable the Spotify app as I do use it at home whereas I use Google Play Music while on the move

What you could try is to download an app from Google play that supports controlling 3:rd party music players. I tested this app in my phone and it seems to work for Spotify and our music app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kober.headset
