After thinking that all messaging issues had been resolved in the latest system update, I have discovered that when trying to open a received MMS, it opens the latest taken photo instead.

Has anyone else experienced this effect, or can replicate my issues?

Sorry to hear that.

Could you try to reset default app preferences and see if that helps? This is done from Settings -> Apps -> [menu] -> Reset app preferences.

If this doesn't help, do you see wrong picture in the conversation or when you tap the picture to open it (or in both cases)?

As soon as you disable Album, then the wrong MMS image opens without any other actions. Once you enable Album, then the correct MMS picture opens when selected.

This demonstrates that there is an MMS dependency on the Album app.

This is either a bug, or needs to be called out as a dependency when any actions are undertaken on the Album app.

Glad to hear that it works now

I tested this here and this may perhaps be related to Google Photos and not out Messaging app. When you disable Album, Google Photos will be used to open the picture (assuming you haven't downloaded any other 3:rd party imaging apps). But when i download for example QuickPic from Google Play and use that to open the picture (with Album disabled), it shows correct picture. So it doesn't look like our messaging app depends on Album.

Looks like you are indeed right. I tried to disable Google Photos and enabled Album and is all good.

My bad on the bug with the Sony product.

You'd think that Google would be able to get it right with their own product. I saw one other report of it, but the reporter was using Hangouts and not the Messaging app.

I will post a report in the Google forums on it.
