For me it seems to be completely connected to the calendar. If I remove the calendar sync it works fine.

Oddly enough it also works fine 1 time out of 5 if I first turn off Outlook then start the sync process.

I sync my Outlook contacts and calendar with the help of Sony PC companion.

Syncing contacts works just fine but halfway through syncing the calendar my Outlook 2016 crashes and then restarts. After I'm no longer able to use Outlook (can't open the folder file) so I need to restart the PC before I can use Outlook again (I've cleared running memory from PC Companion, Outlook etc, also removed addins from outlook) but nothing seems to help.

So...help?

Same thing happening to my Outlook when I try to sync contacts with my Xperia Z5 Compact. I have more than 3000 contacts maybe this is the reason why Sony PC companion can't handle synchronization?

Did you give Outlook permission to access the phone? and Calendar, and other apps, and vice versa, have you had a look at the default permissions that Windows 10 imposes on everything (switches in "Settings > Privacy")

Thanks for your response!

Not sure I fully understand what you mean. First of all, I use the Sony PC companion app to communicate with Outlook.

Also, pls note that the syncronisation works although it crashes Outlook. Interesting though if I close Outlook before I start to sync it won't crash the first time (but if I repeat the sync then it crashes).

So anyway, I checked the Settings/privacy and all relevant (calendar, contact, mail, other devices) are turned on. Been looking for some time but can't figure out how to add Sony PC companion as a "trusted apps".

Have you tried using Outlook.com cloud (or any other) for syncing? Does Outlook acting the same?

I sometimes use AkrutoSync to sync my corporate calendar with Z3 and there's a feature of syncing contacts in this software. You can check details and download it here.

I've never tested it with syncing contacts, so I don't know if it will help in your situation. But you could atleast check whether or not PC Companion is causing the problem and search for alternative.

If that's PC Companion who makes your Outlook crash, then I recommend you to move to the Outlook.com cloud and forget about all this problems.

Hi and thanks for your suggestions!

Coming from the world of iPhone I kind of liked the way they handled syncing so I'm a bit amazed that there is nothing similar in the Androidworld.

Have checked out AkrutoSync and it seems promising so I'll give it a try and let you know if it works out.

J

Finally figured it out...and it wasn't Sonys fault :).

Unfortunately AcrutoSync didn't work out for me since I keep the pst-file for Outlook on my portable. I want to be able to sync wherever I am but that would require that I had access to every router I'm behind (need to open a few ports) which is fine at home and in the office...but wouldn't work whenever I'm staying at a hotel.

But it got me thinking...I remembered an incident a few years ago with my iPhone where it suddenly would stop syncing calendar appointments. So I followed the same strategy as then and now it works again.

What I did was to

1. move all appointments from my Outlook calendar to a backup pst-file.

2. Sync with Sony PC Sync (clearing all appointments on the phone

3. Moved back just one appointment and synced it to see that it worked (it did)

4.Moved back half appointments and tested to sync again

5. Kept doing that until the sync crashed outlook again...then I knew that there was a faulty appointment in the last batch I synced.

Then just kept doing half and half until I found the faulty appointment - once I re-created that one everything worked fine again.
