The phone is mis-sold as 'waterproof' in my opinion. The IP rating which is displayed on marketing and sales information means it will/can be totally immersed in water. It means that the phone is "protected from immersion in water with a depth of more than 1 meter," according to the IEC. The usage case supplied for this is "Rain, splashing and accidental submersion."

The IEC requires that the manufacturer itself supplies the precise depth and length of time the device can be exposed to water in such a rating. See the important information doc on your phone for the exact depth and time limit. You'll find sony state elswhere that the phone shouldn't be immersed in water. So why advertise it as waterproof- what the point!! I would recomment gathering as much information as possible and using this to your advatage

Warranty for IP rating

Hello , I have a Warranty Question.

I have a Sony xperia Z3 compact that was new 15 months ago.

I believe the phone has failed the Ingress Protection rating either due to design or production or quality control.

The phone was splashed with water . I immediately dried the phone however the phone got warm and switched itself off.

Later in the day the phone started working again but now has 2 unwanted features.

1. When the screen brightness is set to 40% or less the led screen starts to flicker intermittently near the left edge of the screen.

2. The battery capacity status is not behaving correctly. Stopping charging early or sudden drops in capacity.

My interpretation from reading the warranty information it basically says that if water is found inside the phone then warranty is void.

If this is the case then the IP rating is not as sold for intended use?

I keep the phone clean and use the magnetic charging dock so not to disturb the rubber seals on the Sim and SD card doors.

For this reason I believe the warranty should be valid as the water must have entered elsewhere (speaker button or headphone?)

A design issue? not durable over two year warranty or production quality issue? with speaker sealing, screen glue etc.

I am in the UK. Has anyone had similar experience? Is it worth sending for warranty repair (up to 10 days to look at)

Thanks. I managed to contact the live chat.
In summary (in uk) I need to gamble £22 and being without a phone for 7 days.
If it's warranty it will be fixed and returned for free. If they decide it is not warranty then they will quote to repair. If I want my phone returned without repair then it will cost me £22.
