topic Urgently need to change PIN, don't want to factory reset in Z Series

Hello all,

a few weeks ago I accidently dropped my Xperia Z3 Compact on the ground. The damage wasn't serious, apart from some scratches on the screen, at least so I thought. Turns out the damage was much more than just some scratches: a few hours later, my touchscreen started to act weird and eventually the top half of the touchscreen wasn't functional, as in the screen was still working, but I couldn't press anything on the top part of the screen.

You may have guessed it already: my PIN contains the number 1, and on the unlock screen, number 1 is on the top part of the screen, making it impossible for me to enter my complete pin. I want to reset the pin, but I do not want any of my data lost.

Things I've tried:

-Android Device Manager: everything is functional in ADM: locating works fine, I can request a ring, and I can probably erase my device as well, but I didn't try. When I press the "Lock" option on the other hand, it doesn't work. I enter a password on my PC, and confirm. It even prompts "Lock request succesfully sent" or something along those lines, but when I look at my phone, nothing happens. When I try to enter a new password, it prompts "Since Google has verified that a screen lock is already set, the password that you entered won't be needed." Looking at my phone, nothing happened.

-Entering the wrong PIN a few times to login with my Google account: I think it's already patched, but I tried anyway. My phone gets locked for 30 seconds every time.

Googling suggests that I should factory reset my device so the PIN will be removed, but I got valuable files on that phone's built-in memory, not on an SD.

I would just backup my whole phone on a PC and factory reset it, but I cannot access the phone's files while it's locked.

If anyone has a solution for my situation, it'd be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi NeverBuyASonyPhone,

Sorry to hear this, the OTG suggestion above is a good option, however, you could try the information in this link.

My Xperia

The instructions are for My Xperia and may allow you to change the password on it, however, if this does fail then follow the OTG option.

Let us know how you get on.
