Ring tone for tect message

Hi, I have had an Xperia Z3 compact for about 18 months and it has been an excellent phone. I have a different ring tone for text messages. When I first got the phone I only got this ring tone for text messages. Now I get it for emails and app updates. I am not young and do not fully understand all the settings so I may have done something to cause this. Can anyone tell me how to get the ring tone only for text messages. I do not want it for emails etc as they are not usually important.

you can set a specific notification sound only for messages

1.) go to messaging app

2.)tap on the 3 buttons on the upper right corner

3.)select settings

4.)select notification sound

5.) choose your sound specific to the messages only

Thank you for your quick reply. I can follow through to No5. but all I get is the connection to selct stored sounds. I can't see how to choose a sound for messages only?

when you select a sound, that sound will only ring for the messages, not for other notifications,,,

so you'll have a different tone for messages , is that what you are looking for?

or you don't want to sound notification when you receive email.?

this depends on what email client are you using, are you using gmail?

The same sound happens for text messages, emails and app updates. I only want it for text messages. It used to be like that. I was using Hotmail but have recently changed to Gmail. The sound I want for text only sounded with Hotmail and does the same with Gmail.

ok i see, the thing is all notification will use the defualt notifcation sound, so we need to go the every app to change it to something different.

I do not know how to change the notification for app, but you can disable it,

google play store>swipe the left edge in>settings>uncheck apps updates available

for gmail

Go to gmail app> swiple left edge in>settings>click on your account>tap on inbox sound and vibrate>sound> then select other tone

Yes, thats fixed it or almost. I just selected a very short quiet sound for the gmail. Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. I now won't be woke up at night with emails from another part of the world where they are awake but I am sleeping..
