Contacts duplication in writing new message in messaging app

When I want to write a message to my contacts in messaging app ,I press space to see the contacts and they display duplicated.

I recently formatted my device and backed up my contacts, then restored them. Some contacts were missing so I deleted all the contacts and restored once again. My contacts all aren't in english, I made the system language english especially for the screenshot.

When I browse my contacts I don't see them duplicated as they're displayed in writing new message in messaging app.

any suggestion for the problem would be appreciated, thanks.

@Alam1998 Do you have more filters set up? Can you make sure you have a backup of your contacts and try settings - apps, show system and clear data for contacts storage? This will erase all your locally stored contacts.

The contacts are backed up by vcf. but when I cleared the cache on contacts storage that deleted all the contacts.
But now when i restore the vcf. file it says contacts imported but no contacts show in contacts list. I really need that to be solved as fast as possible.

You might have to check the filter for local contacts.

My local contacts filter wasn't checked, I checked it and the contacts appeared. But when writing new message they still appear duplicated as shown in the screenshot above... Some contacts are duplicated 2-4 times. Is that an issue with the vcf. card?

In this case, can you try to clear data for messaging app the same way you did for contacts storage? Also, can you check if the same occurs in safe mode?

In safe mode some contacts appear duplicated not all. I tried clearing the cache for the messaging app and it doesn't delete the messages. Still, they appear duplicated and when I want to text a group it's kinda inconvenient....

It's either the filter or the contacts acting up, if the backup is like this I believe it will restore it the same.

There's no filtering in messaging app, and in contacts I made sure that only the phone contacts is filtered...
Is there anyway to edit the vcf. file so that I can clear the cache of contacts storage and backup the edited vcf. again?

@alexdon I found out why contacts appear to be duplicated, that's because certain contacts are linked to google and whatsapp, so I tried removing whatapp and google link by editing an individual contact and pressing on unlink contact button at the whatsapp and google tabs, then realized that it isn't duplicated anymore when writting a new message. I saw that my vcf. file doesn't contain duplicated contacts when I tried viewing it in a vcf reader 3rd party application. Is there a possible way to unlink contacts from whatapp and google once? Because unlinking many contacts individually takes so much efforts...?

I don't know about another way to unlink all contacts at once. Not sure if there is any use if you set a single filter as they are linked, I would have suggested leaving only local contacts.

That was the point, thanks a lot!
Now the contacts aren't duplicated & it's more convenient to use at writting new messages

I almost didn't believe that myself when writing. Nice @Alam1998!
