Toucscreen Problems - Registers inexisting Touches..

I recently started having this problem with my Xperia Z3 Compact. From time to time the touchscreen registers a click/touch in the top left corner for no reason. It happens randomly several times a day and as far as i can tell it doesn't matter whether I'm already touching the screen or not. Also when it does happen it usually clicks several times for some seconds.

Restarting didn't change anything. I do have a screen protector but this problem only started recently (as in the last few weeks) and I have had this phone (with screen protector) for almost a year now. Is this Hardware or Software related? Please help.

Could you remove the screen protector and test the Touch Screen?

1. Settings
2. About phone
3. Test
4. Test the touchscreen

You can also test the phone in safe mode

1. press and hold the power key
2. once you get the pop up menu
3. press and hold "power off"
4. Boot on safe mode should become available
