Xperia Z5 SD card trouble

When I try turning on my Z5 with the SD card in, it starts loading, then the screen goes black, the indicator light blinks red a couple of times and then tries to turn on again only for the same thing to happen. When i try it without the SD card it turns on fully, but for some reason the phone overheats. What could cause the phone to not turn with that SD card in it? The card works normally when connected to an adapter and into my laptop.

Welcome to the community,

It is possible that the SD card has some bad data on it which is causing an issue when booting. However following @uliwooly's instructions are the best way to try combat this one.
