I am considering getting this remote commander to use with my NEX-7.

Does anyone know its range? How far can I be from the camera for it to work (assuming unrestricted line of sight)?

I only plan to use it for still shots, not video. Would it be a good buy or are there better alternatives?

It says in this review:-

the range is 15 to 30 feet (4.5 to 9 m) line-of-sight to the sensor on the front of the camera.

If you are using it for single shots, there is a much cheaper alternative here:-
