A7 and A7R - future firmware updates?

The A7II, A7R II, and some others recently got a v4.0 firmware update.

I'm wondering if there will be any future updates to the original A7 and A7R?

Hi,

That's hard to say unfortuntately and very much depends on engineering resources.

Currently I'm not aware of any upcoming updates for A7 or A7R.

I'm very worried and angry if you don't give us future firmware updates, as we were the 1st customers to believe in you!

It would be nice to have the same updates to the "Star Eater" problem and any functional updates to allow them to function optimally with new lenses.

Dropping support makes me reticent to purchase future Sony products such as the A7R II, which if it follows the same trend also won't be getting updates a year from now.

This is a well-made point.

Sony really should continue to support existing users. Personally, I would very much like to have the upgrade to the system for selecting the active focusing point which the A7RII now has. I have both the AR7 and the mark II cameras and consistent behaviour (where possible) is important for me.
