A290 Built-in Flash still triggers with hotshoe attached

Hi everyone,

I've just purchased a Neewer Speedlite TT560 and a hotshoe adapter for my (archaic) Alpha A290. I was under the impression that with the Speedlite attached, the built-in flash wouldn't be activated, but it still attempts to pop up and hits the hotshoe adapter.

Is this correct? Or am I missing a setting I need to adjust on the camera itself? I've checked the manual but I have failed to spot anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That doesn't sound right.

Sorry to ask but is the hotshoe adapter / flash fitted properly?

I've checked the manual for the A290 and the only mention of

changing a flash setting is for wireless flash shooting, where it then tells you to take the flash off 😞
