Extended warranty SLT A77

I am on the point of puchasing a SLT A77 with grip etc to use with Minolta lenses and have tried without success to enquire about extended warranty costs and availability. The Sony site is not helpful and refers to serVIPlus about which I can find nothing useful. I would be grateful for some guidance please.

The extended warranty is normally available when you buy the camera. You can also apply for the serVIPlus policy within a limited time following your purchase. There's a brief mention of this at the bottom of the following page: http://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/warranty

Many thanks for your prompt reply. I had alreadyspotted that entry but I cannot find a route to "read more" about it. It is almost as though Sony are not keen on selling it but perhaps I am being perverse and displaying my aged intolerance. I have also just raised the query with WEX who is my supplier of choice but obviously have not had a reply yet although they are normally fairly prompt. Thank you for your help anyway

I have contacted UK support and was told that there is no extended warranty available for SLT-A77 or SLT-A99 or any SLT cameras.

Please some one advise if any other alternative available.

you can always buy a MACK warranty via Calumet or similar.

I would prefer a Sony extended warranty as available in the US but if they don't offer them on Alphas here ....

Hello again everyone

I am aware that Domestic and General offer extended warranties in the UK for electrical goods including cameras. However, I cannot say that I have used them for any services in the past - it may be worth getting in touch with them by Googling 'Domestic and General' (when I have worked in retail in the past, this company was the extended warranty partner).

Like I say, I obviously cannot recommend them - however it may be worth giving them a call for more information.

If you specifically want a Sony extended warranty, these are available through a Sony centre if you have one nearby. Alternatively, you could try giving one a call. I'm sure they'd be able to do it over the phone.

Just gave my local Sony centre a call, this is what they came back with : -

Alpha Body only (Up to £800 value)

Extra 1 year warranty (2 year's total) - £35,00

Extra 2 year warranty (3 year's total) - £50.00

Alpha Body only (Between £801 and £1,000 value)

Extra 1 year warranty (2 year's total) - £45.00

Extra 2 year warranty (3 year's total) - £50.00

To be honest, I think these are pretty good rates when you consider Curry's wanted to charge me £250 for a 5 year warranty on a 32" TV!

Just called Sony and have been told this product (extended warranty) is no longer available. Just spent a lot of money on A 77 and won't have the money to replace if it fails out of warranty. Any suggestions?

I wonder what Sony is up to! Surely if they had faith in their product they would be wanting to offer an extra warranty, (at an extra charge), because they would feel safe in the knowledge they will not have to pay out on it?
