Bravia TV cannot use any apps until full list is updated on the Apps page

I have bought a KDL-40W705 recently for my parents.

Wireless all setup successfully and I showed them how to find the apps and use them.

The TV is switched off overnight from the mains to reduce risk of fire, therefore when the TV is next switched on the Apps page has to refresh its list. You can see wavy lines animated whilst it does this, which takes quite a few minutes. In the meantime it is not possible to use any of the apps (e.g. in the favourites).

What gives? Is the TV designed never to be powered down?

Not recommended to switch off the mains. There is no risk of fire. These devices require to be constantly connected to the power. Just turn off from remote and will be fine.

OK I can understand that, its a shame the older generation do not want to change their ways... Their TV is unplugged at night as does the router.... Full stop!
