On some settings my WX7 decides to take two shots.
Where can I find a description of this 'dual shot' facility, and how I can control it (if atall).
eg - when does the camera decide to merge the two shots itself
- when does it decide to leave me with two near identical images
The (html) User Guide doesn't seem to cover this

I think that you are referring to the 3D picture mode of the camera. In this setting, the camera takes two shots and then merges them together to create an image that can be viewed in 3D on a compatible TV or monitor. This mode and other ones are discussed at various points in the official user manual which is located here:

For 3D in particular, the information about turning various picture modes on and off can be found starting on page 19.
