Str-dn1080 and hi-res via DLNA

Hi,

Don't know if anyone from Sony look at posts in this forum but if they do I recently had an issue sending music in dsf format to my receiver via DLNA. Looks like the receiver sends a rather confusing message to the DLNA server which prevents playback. Maybe worth fixing in a firmware update. See this thread :

Hi,

Thanks for the suggestion and the link. If anyone is interested I got the below reply. Not super helpful. Guess it isn't important for Sony to follow that particular standard... At least I have found some workarounds.

Thank you for contacting Sony support.

We are sorry to learn that you are facing difficulties with your Sony STR-DN1080 device using DSF files with the DLNA feature.

Unfortunately we would like to highlight that we do not guarantee the functionality of DSF files using DLNA, for more information, please check the help guide below including the restrictions:

https://helpguide.sony.net/ha/strdn108/v1/en/contents/TP0001221399.html

You may also find this information using the manual link below on page 64 restriction number “2”:

Should you have any further questions, please feel free to reply to this email.

Thank you for your enquiry.

Yours sincerely,

Seif

One option is to use a DLNA server that can transcode to LPCM, such as Serviio.

Hi,

Well, the great thing about Serviio is that it can actually send native
DSD/DSF to the receiver. Problem was Jriver. I made it work by modifying
some mime types. But the receiver actually sends some wrong information to
the DLNA server so this was what I tried to have Sony change but they
apparently have little interest in correcting this.

It's been a few years since I've used Serviio, but you can customize the DLNA config for the AVR in the server by editing a text file. There's also a forum where you can also get help configuring it.
