I bought a replacement MH650 headset for use with my Xperia Arc S phone. Upon attempting to use it, I get an error message: 'Accessory not supported'. My previous headset was the same, I replaced it only because I lost it, so I can't understand where the problem lies. Please can you help?

Then it should work so there's something wrong with the headset or phone. As uliwooly suggested i would recommend that you contact the store to try another headset.
the Xperia Arc (2010 and 2011) use OMTP standard, 2012, 2013, 2014 CTIA standard
Thanks, I'm afraid that I don't really understand whether that answers my question. My headset doesn't work with the device that it's designed for. Do you have any suggestions about what I can do to fix this issue?

If you look at the label on the headset, does it say MH650 or MH650c?
