broken xperia play

I had my xperia play R800i in my pocket while it was raining. when I tried to turn it on vibrate it as when it starts but nothing came on the screen
I sent it in to sony who gave it back to me and said that it could not be repaired. the flex cable was in to pieces. I was so self-initiated and replaced the flex cable it still would not start. do i maybe have to replace the screen

Replacing the screen might do the trick, there's no way to tell what the issue is, it could be the screen, or motherboard or something else
