Xperia S - how to show opened applications?

Good day,

I recently updated my Xperia S with the latest software. Since then I cannot seem to deliberately show the 'opened applications'.

Sometimes by accident I open it, they show up at the long side of the screen and you can open the app, or close by swiping. It's very convenient!

But when I press "home" and hold (according to manual), I get a "search" screen, with blank space and on top room to fill out search words and the icon of a mic.

I must be doing something wrong but through the manual I cannot find out how to show "Opened Applications".

Hopefully somebody can help.

Now,there is google now(on longer press of home button).To get the recent task manager,tap home twice.
