Ok so a little bit of history, TV is a KD-43XF7073, at the beginning of June I noticed a software update to v8.881.
I went ahead and installed the update (this was the first software update for about a year), the update installed and everything seemed to be OK. About three hours later the TV stopped responding to any commands from the remote control (batteries were fine, the remote could operate another Sony TV I have), the buttons on the back of the TV did not operate either. I unplugged the TV and waited 5 minutes before powering up again, there was a picture and sound, but the info banner would not disappear, still no response from the remote. Tried several times TV would not respond to remote control even though the white LED on the TV was blinking in response.
Anyway the TV needed repaired, it is now back with a new mainboard (apparently a common problem)
and is working. However I see Sony have a new software update after only three weeks from the last, v8.882 is available. My question is this, should I go ahead with the update, have any of you updated to this new version,
on a similar model, without issue.
Thank You.
Check your installed version, and Check the update instructions, as you have to have v8.535 installed for both the x1 and x2 update, so maybe that was your issue..they were specific about it being on a certain version.
Wouldn't want to risk it again..
I updated one of my tv's on Saturday, and it went well.
Before I updated to v8.881 the TV was on v8.764, so that was not the issue.
Just mulling over whether or not to go to v8.882 and why Sony introduced an update at the beginning of June
(v8.881) and then hurriedly introduced a new one three weeks later.
Hi @daveyh64 Nobody can speak for SONY as this is a customer community. However the reason given is on the update page. That is:
