Experia X Compact discharged and wont charge

My wife's experia x compact was at 50% and suddenly got really very hot and discharged to 0%. I put the phone on charge and the red light is pulsing at the top right of the phone. However it does not want to start up. Any ideas what's wrong and how go fix. She has had the phone nearly 3 years with no problems at all

Seems there's something really wrong.

Maybe try this.

With connected charger push Vol UP and Power together and hold for a long time.

Then release, wait a few seconds and push Power for a few seconds.

If it vibrates it will wake up.
