missing "USB connection mode" menu

Xperia X Compact model F5321 with Android 7.1.1. When USB cable is connected device is charging but there is no "USB connection mode" menu in status bar. Seems like it doesn't recognize USB connections. Also, USB tethering is grayed out.  Also I cannot connect my PC, it doesn't recognize USB device, and also adb doesnt recognize my phone.

I use original Sony USB-C cable, I tried different USB-C cables as well, on different USB ports of different computers. Same result. I rebooted my phone, removed SIm and SD-card---still doesn't recognize USB.

I am aware of the thread below but solution proposed in this thread is not related to my problem and doesn't help

How about a different phone?  Winking_Face

When you checked everything you should consider that the port is not connecting well because of accumulated dirt or that the port is damaged.

I would go for cleaning first.

You can find how this is done on youtube.

looked at the port and it seems clean, no debris inside and connection seems fine, goes in and clicks, my wifes has the same phone and hers works fine with the same pc and cables.

This indicates a broken port.

I would still try cleaning first.

I had to get mine sent off for repair, it was USB-C problem.

I sent mine for repair. It came back able to connect to the computer, but the mic was screwed up. No one could hear me clearly when I spoke. I had to send it back again. But it came back with more audio problems. Finally after the third time I sent it back they sent me a new phone. So for $150 and a lot of headaches, and not having my phone for about 4 months, I now have a new Compact X (same model made in 2017).

I'm really unhappy with Sony and don't plan to buy another Sony phone. I persisted though because it is the only small Android I can find right now at a reasonable price. I dislike big phones more than I dislike Sony still.

My sentiments entirely. Nice phone but useless to me if I can't get it to connect to my Laptop. Bluetoothing won't work either as it will send to the Laptop but won't receive. I.m going back to my Huawei with strong complaint to SONY.

I gave up on Sony and went back to Samsung. I don't like it but Sony was terrible on reliability and customer service.
