Android 9 volume

Android 9 volume

Just had the new update. Now though, the volume keys only alter the media volume, not the ring/notification volume. Only got the option to put ring into vibrate mode or have to go into the settings. Is there a way to change this as I can't find one?

Hi @Capn, welcome to our forum! Slightly_smiling_Face

In Android 9.0 (Pie), the volume keys will only adjust the media volume. This is different from previous versions of Android, where ring tone volume was the default setting.

There is no way to change this setting in Android Pie. However, there is a toggle button for the three ringer modes just above the on-screen volume slider, which lets you turn the ringer off and on with a single tap. During calls, the volume keys will adjust the speaker volume for call audio, and the on-screen volume slider will show an additional column for this.

If you want to adjust the ring/notification volume, tap with your finger on the volume up or volume down button on the side of your device > tap the little cog wheel just below the volume slider > adjust the ring and notification tone in here.

I hope that answers your question!

Thanks capn for asking question.

Cheers Jonas for quick response.

I'm finding changing ring tone volume a bit frustrating now but look like I'll have to live with it.

Same here, might sound odd to some but it's a phone first and needing to change the media volume, when not playing media, seems a bit daft to me. But as you say,  looks like we've got to get used to it!

The Android Pie Update took away the convenience of adjusting the volume on my Ring and Notification's.  I now have to open up the sound settings to do so.

Hello again everyone! Slightly_smiling_Face

@Aboutfivebucks, you're very welcome and I'll make sure to forward your feedback regarding this, but do note that I can't promise that this can/will be changed.

@Capn, that is very true! I don't really change the ring volume at all, since I use the scheduled Do not Disturb mode to have my device be silent during working hours and when I sleep, but if you use change the volume quite a lot during the day, there are some more steps in Android Pie. I'll make sure to forward your feedback as well!

@Boose, I merged the post you made to this one, since this one has a solution, so please take a look at the solution.

Have a great weekend of all you! Slightly_smiling_Face

Today I had the perfect solution. For a short while I used the side volume adjustment button and I had two boxes appear on the right side of the screen. One was media volume (which we are all getting) and the other was ring volume. It was the perfect solution.Side by side.

Unfortunately I can't replicate it after closing down a number of apps.

This is frustrating. I'll continue to try and see if there is a relationship between apps and the choice of volume adjustment. The adjustment looked similar to this image I googled below

There is a small window of opportunity just after I recieve a text to adjust the volumes in the window below. Easy to replicate.Screenshot_20181028-080528.png
