Dear Support Community:
I recently purchased an International Version of the Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact. It's a great phone and I like it, however, what I'm finding is that there is an internal language setting that appears to be hard-wired into the phone that I can't seem to change to English. In the settings I've set the language to USA English, however, whenever I insert an SD card, I get a notification in Chinese with two buttons to make a selection in Chinese. I can't read Chinese so I have no idea what that notification is.
Another example is when I go to Do Not Disturb Settings, some of the original suggested automatic rules are written in Chinese and not in English.
How do I change these notifications to English rather than the language of where the phone came from?
Is there a deeper language root setting that I need to enter to change the root language to English?
Should I log in as a developer into the phone and make any changes to make sure all notifications are in English?
I called Xperia Customer Care in the US and the support associate said that other than doing a factory reset or a software repair there is nothing else that she has instructions on. Well obviously neither of those things is going to solve this issue. I've tried both and they don't solve this issue at all.
It has to do with a language setting that appears to be hardwired into the phone based on where the phone is supposed to be geographically located.
In today's global village, people travel for business and they may purchase a product in one country and choose to use it in another. This bug shouldn't exist. If in the settings I've set my language to English USA, all notifications made by the phone, should be in English and not other languages. Sometimes people may purchase a phone and use it in the country too, but if they have chosen English as the language, then all systems notices should be made in the language that has been selected by them in settings. That's not how this phone is hardwired to work evidently.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts regarding how to fix this bug.
Regards,
Mike
@Mike_D go to Settings > System > Languages & input > Languages. does the list show anything other than "1 English (United States) and "+ Add a language"? if yes, then press the three dots icon in the top right corner of the screen and choose "remove", then remove every position on the list except for your preferred language.
