XZ2P camera cover scratched

Hi,

I read a similar topic here but it had no solutions.

Basically the camera cover of my XZ2P is gettin scratched more and more (idk why). My question is that are the scratches on the glass/plastic cover or is it on a coating covering the glass/plastic. If the latter is true, that would mean, I could potentially remove the coating and the camera cover would be unscratched, right?

Going to a service center is not an option as in my country they do not offer assistance with the XZ2P.

Please help.

Thank you

A mi me pasó lo mismo, no tengo solución en mi país. Creo que es una falla del producto. Jamás volveré a comprar un movil de esta marca. Jamás-

Hey.
Was your phone bought right after the premiere? I wonder if this is a problem for some first party of these phones. Sony in Poland claims that so far they have not had such a submission as mine.

Hey.
I received an e-mail today. Sony upholds its decision. I am very disappointed with the decision.

Below are some links where similar cases are described. Maybe it will be useful to someone and he will be able to get a repair under the warranty.

Thanks to the great help of Jonas from this forum, Sony accepted my complaint and fixed the phone as part of the warranty. After a month, the phone came back from the service.

Once again very big thanks to Jonas.

Got same issue with my XZ2P which I got in Feb 2019, so it's only a few months old. Pretty annoyed.

Have contacted Sony Mobile UK support.

Hi there,

I've also got this issue with a 3-4 month old handset that has been in a case since straight out of the box, never dropped and well looked after. Having the same delamination of the coating over the camera glass. Sony UK/SBE were claiming physical damage (there's no scratches etc.) and were refusing their warranty obligations for this defective materials issue. Thankfully Jonas was able to resolve this dispute for me and my phone has been repaired. I can't wait to get it back now so I can get back into taking more high quality photos on the go.

Unbelievable! I've only had my phone back for one month after the debacle of getting the defective camera glass coating repaired. To my disbelief but not surprisingly, the coating is already delaminating on the replacement back. I have no idea how this got through R&D in the first place. I'm certainly not dealing with warranty support again after my experience and hassle of last time. I'll just have to strip the coating off once it gets bad enough to impact the camera performance. Poor choice of materials for an expensive flagship phone Sony! This is precisely why I refused to pay for the first repair in the first instance, I had a gut feeling the quality of the replacement part would be just as bad as the original.

Only a few months after the repair of my XZ2 Premium and the faulty coating on the replacement has now completely come off. Less than a year old and this is the hazey crap quality photos that my flagship Xperia now takes. Gutted to say the least that I've had this experience. Given the hassle to have it repaired under warranty the first time, I'm not sure it's worth going through again. Looks like it's time to buy some cerium oxide to see if a polish will fix it or buy a replacement OEM back case that hopefully wouldn't be manufactured with a stupid dodgy coating on the camera glass. I've always loved Sony phones, but this is definitely the last one I'll own after this terrible quality control experience.

This is a comparison photo taken with the front facing camera just to show how terrible the rear camera is once the coating wears off excessively.
