My Sony Xperia Z1 was Entered by water!

Hey guys, I'm always a Sony Fans.

Recently, I've purchased a Sony Xperia Z1 for over 2 months. At first, I tested my phone underwater that my speaker's volume turns low although it's the largest I've tune. And the volume recover back after few hours (as I think that the holes of the phone was entered by water).

But the problem turns into more serious, my phone volume just remain low for more than a week after I'm having underwater shooting. And until yesterday, the problem even worse, my phone was entered by water!

My phone was suddenly dropped into a pail of water and after I get it out of that pail, the phone's front camera and back camera was full of steam! OMG, I can't believe my eye!

My first action is to telephone the local Sony Xperia Hotline but it's out from office hours, so I can't leave the voice message or any history for them to prefer me back. So I used to email to questions.my@support.sonymobile.com.

But today (21st Jan 2014), I received the replied email from Sony that the problem is not under warranty! OMG! I've checked the previous record of forum that all them are claimed for warranty successfully and one of them get 1 to 1 exchange by Sony! the content of email are as below:-

Replied Email from Sony

I'm really angry with the service performance, so I called the customer service once again today but the customer service direct me to another department (Electrical Appliances department if not wrong). I've confirmed with them that the case will be identified after sending of phone to service centre.

Well, Sony Service Centre will produce report after they've done checking. But I'm scared that they will not entertain my case. And also, how if they make the report which is not benefit to me? Anyone can guarantee? because I've lost confidence with Sony after all this happened on me!

Please clear that confusion, I want to put my phone in a glass of water for 5 seconds to test the phone water proofing.
If my phone will work well after test then it's ok, but if it will damage then what ???????????

After damage I have to go service centre. I saw all the posts, every time service centre first check FLAPS of mobile if they all are white colour then they test further otherwise if FLAPS are Red colour they refuse the warranty.

I will close all the FLAPS tightly before test, but My question is how can I know, all FLAPS are tightly closed and non of them is leaked. If all flaps are 100% closed, only then they will remain White while water testing or if any of them remain 99% closed then it will get water and become Red colour and warranty void.

HOW TO VERIFY, FLAPS ARE CLOSED 100% OR NOT ?????????????

What colour are the markers? If they are red, water has entered the device.

How do I challenge Sony's view that the fault on my XperiaZ1 was mine? Basically it's sold as waterproof but mine got water in it and when sent to Sony they (SBE Ltd) said the water got in and it's not cost effective to fix. Apparently I forgot to do something? How can they sell a phone as waterproof, but make it easy for a consumer to do something that doesn't keep it waterproof? Waste of a very expensive phone. Seems poor to me and I want to challenge it but not sure how to.

Were the lids properly closed? What colour are the markers placed under the lids?

alexdon

Hi,

I've no idea. It stopped working so we sent it to Sony - didn't check any 'lids' or markers - just sent it off as requested.

But that's my point - what you're saying is that the customer can do or forget to do something that makes it not waterproof - surely that's a weakness in the design? Sony are not just selling to people who are technically minded, but to a whole breadth of the population., many of whom haven't a clue about what they should do.

My other question related to how I challenge the findings of the company Sony sent it to for examination?

I assume we get the phone back?

There are some steps you have to do before you submerge the device and the most important is to check if the lids/flaps covering the USB port and other 2 from SIM and microSD are closed properly. You cannot make a full waterproof device without having some drawbacks. Here it is that you need to open the flaps to charge the phone.

About challenging them, you can contact xperia care:

I hope that will help. You should get the phone back but I do not know how your local sony centre works.
