My Xperia Z stopped responding to the charger, and since this has happened many times before, I tried a simple reboot.
Sadly, as soon as the phone was off (charger was still in), the red LED sprung to life and has been on ever since. However, I am not able to do ANYTHING with the phone. No hard reset, no charge, no pc connection, no Sony PC Companion, no nothing. Right now my last hope is waiting till the LED runs down the battery (which was below 4%, hence me charging it), and seeing if charging it from scratch fixes anything.
Is there anything I can do without giving up on it completely? It's about 2,5 years old, second hand, and I don't think a repair would be a financially beneficial option.

Have you tried the volume up and power buttons to reset your device or force shut down
Thommo my man. Thanks for the immediate reply. No, sadly the buttons are competely non-responsive. I've tried all combinations (which would be power + volume up and power + volume down, both for at least a minute).
However, the battery did die now, when trying the power button it did give the usual three warning lights saying "You gotta charge me" and now having plugged it back in the charger the LED is back on as usual. I REALLY hope the battery being empty was the reset it needed. I will keep you posted.
I can't be sure but the Z1 for example has a off button under one of the flaps - Does your device have the same
