z3 compact crashes when music access is attempted

Every app that attempts to access music crashes or freezes and causes a reboot. Includes Walkman, doubletwist, and even settings to pick a ringtone. Battery down to 28% after only 3.5 hours. This is a brand new phone, sim installed 3.5 hours ago. Using SanDisk 64gb extreme pro microsd and factory software. HELP!

Try performing a system repair using Pc Companion as this will often fix issues - This will factory reset your phone

Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the onscreen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process

If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

Nice, I'll try when I get home. I have a MacBook pro but run xp on a partition. I'll look for a mac native version as well.

Hi PreisidentGod,

Welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

You may also want to backup the Music and then perform a format to the SD card, as this could simply be failing due to bad data on the SD card.

I hope this helps.

Attempting repair with Bridge for Mac, will also be reformatting the SD card while I'm at it.  Phone died completely while I was away from home.  100% to 0% in just over five hours.  I'm sure that's not common!  I really hope this works as I like the device and don't know what other options would suit me.  I'm done with iOS rendering the last gen product obsolete so iphone is no longer an option.

Thank you Thommo and Uliwooly, and also to Jake from support.  I'll update as soon as I have more info.

Used bridge for Mac to repair and reinstall factory settings and also reformatted the SD card. Used bridge for mac to install a little over 10% (4gb) of music in Playlists onto the SD card with phone in MTP mode. Phone reached full charge and I removed from power but installed a few apps before going to bed.

Music works! Battery is currently at 79%! Light use today but it's not even on stamina mode. I'd say problem solved! Going to try to find the time to install the rest of my music soon. I'll update again as soon as I can, I have a one year old.

Thank you, guys!

After repairing the phone using bridge for mac and also reformatting the SD card everything is working great!  Battery lasted three days of light use and I haven't had any other issues.  Thank you for the help!
