Hi, everybody. Need your help.
Yesterday, midday (when I expected the phone to ahve 70%+ charge), I suddenly noticed my Xperia C5 was off and would not turn on. (By the way, I recently installed Android 6.0 about a week ago).
I assumed something had caused the battery to drain completely, so I went home and plugged it in.
Red light activates, goes out, vibrates, comes back on, and stays on. After 20-30 minutes, still no activity (not even the charging percentage), so I research on this forum, and others, how to recover the device.
Two-button power-down did not work, so I downloaded the Xperia Companion and followed the instructions for Software Repair.
The PC / Companion doesn't recognize the phone at first, but following the software repair instructions, holding the volume button down before plugging the the USB into the computer, the green light (on the phone) came on, and the software repair process commenced (automatically).
First attempt at software repair failed, so I tried with a different USB cable. Second time was a success, and Xperia Companion was able to successfully reload software version 29.2.A.0.122-R3B.
However, I still cannot turn on the device. I have now left it charging for the past 2-3 hours, and it's still in the same state as before the software repair.
I noticed one odd quirk: If I press and hold the power and volume-up button, the red light goes of, there is a medium vibration, then three strong vibrations, before the red light goes on again. Then nothing else happens.
Any advice on how to rescue this C5?
Thanks,
red led usually means depleted battery.
make sure to follow the instructions in this sequence.
1. charge device using wallmount adapter (ignore boot loops) for 2-3 hours
2.)perform software repair using Xperia Companion
3.) turn on your device
Thanks for the quick reply.
I had charged it overnight for 6+ hours before performing the Software Repair this morning using Xperia companion.
After the successful software repair, I've now charged it for another 2-3 hours.
Still no luck. I just went to check and it's still a red constant glowing light.
Any other thoughts?
Just an additional interesting piece of information:
If Xperia Companion is NOT activated (i.e., not loaded), and I plug the device into my PC, Windows will alert me that a device is connected (as it usually does, with the chime), and the red light on the C5 turns GREEN.
Then in my Windows Device Manager, I can see the phone as an "Unspecified" device called S1 Service.
Clicking further into the propertise of this "S1 Service", I see that the Hardware is listed as a SOMC Flash Device, manufacturer is Sony Mobile Communications (etc.).
Every few seconds, I will hear the sound of a device being disconnected, the green light turns red, then there's a vibration, it gets reconected, and it goes green again. Repeat.
as far as i have experienced , the phone won't hold charge if there is something wrong with the software, that's why you need to charge it then perform the repair right after.
yes , the pc will detect the device. s1 is like the recovery mode of the device, that is why it is still detected by software repair even the software inside the phone is broken.
just try the method i suggested one more time. take note to use wallmount charger.
if the problem is still not resolved I suggest to have your phone repaired at your local service center. Local support

How you updated Marshmallow if you only after "death" your smartphone downloaded Xperia Companion (how i understand)? Did you flashed Marshmallow with Flashtool?

1. Updated Marshmellow last week from device notification to update the firmware. (Icon on the top of the screen, notified that firmware update is available).
2. Used it for about 5-6 days without any problem. Then phone died on Saturday afternoon.
3. Sunday morning, using Xperia Companion to 'software repair'.
4. No, did not use Flashtool or anything 3rd-party. Only responded to device's own push notification (for step '1' and step '3' above).

Did you tried full charge it? C5 Ultra Dual sometimes like to "death" for a while, to freeze, but always wake up.. By the way did you tried to force turn off and then turn on/repair? Force turn off is in the side of SIM cards, SD card, you must see hole with text "off", where is your SIMS Cards, SD Card added. Try to force off and when repair, turn on and ect. By the way when you connected with computer what do you see, which information you getting?
I had the same problem, my smartphone was death too, so i bring it to mobile service to repair it. Was changed details and now smartphone working good, sometime freezing screen, but everything is fine and don't death now But i'm on Lollipop yet
I received an update from the Sony Store.
They say that the initial estimate for repair of the device will be around $200USD, because apparently several parts need to be replaced.
Convenient that I purchased the device one year and two weeks ago, so I'm two weeks out of warranty.
Blows me away because the device was working absolutely fine the week before, right up to the point that it turned off (and didn't wake up). Never dropped it or sat on it, and it sits in a protective cover. Even the Sony technican remarked (when I dropped it off for evaluation) that there isn't a single scratch on the chassis.
Is this typical of Sony products? It was my first Sony phone purchase after being a longtime Samsung / Apple user, and sorry to say that this leaves a bad impression.
By the way, I was going through some of the documents in the original packaging, and noticed a card that extends the warranty by 3 months...but had to sign up within 14 days of purchase. Hey Sony team: Any thoughts of honoring this extension as a customer service goodwill gesture?
