After a quick look at the specifications, the only difference I can find is the lens.
The HX7V has a 10X zoom lens but the HX9V has a much more powerful 16X zoom lens. The 16X lens has a 35mm equivalent focal length zoom from a wide 24mm to a super telephoto 384mm.
The 10X zoom on the HX7V has a 35mm equivalent focal length zoom from a wide 25mm to a telephoto 250mm.
I can't see any other differences.
