What is the GPS Unit Kit (CS3KA) for?

I have just purchased a DSC-HX5V.  My understanding is that the camera has GPS kit in it already but when looking at the accessories book it says that this Unit Kit is available.  Is it something that I need or not for the location of my pictures to be recorded?  It's not very clear!

Hello and welcome to the forum.

The accessory you have listed is more of an optional extra. It is a GPS unit for putting location 'tags' on photo and video files but it is designed to be a stand-alone product. This extra device will also put tags on files from other devices as well as from the camera that you have purchased.

Without it, your camera should be geotagging its own files.
