Question

Hi guys,

We have purchased a ARC and a Song A80L TV and was wondering if we can play the Sony featured inbuilt speakers Sony highly rate along with the ARC by using the HDMI(ARC) input?

any advice would be appreciated

Joe

Hi @AllStar

ARC = Audio Return Channel which is used to output the TV audio to a Sound Bar or AV Amp. If you are looking to play (input) audio with the TV speakers then any HDMI input will do. They are all input.

I see that this TV supports the Apple HomeKit, so I strongly suspect that you would be able to play audio using the TV speakers by using Bluetooth.

I’m sorry if I have misunderstood your question.

Thanks for the reply.

We have a Sonos Arc and been told that the Sony A80L has a good sound set up built in to the TV. Was thinking of incorporating this with the Sonos Arc for some added sound.

thanks 🙏🏻

To output sound from both an audio system connected via eARC/ARC and TV speakers

Sound can be output from both an audio system connected to the TV and the TV speakers at the same time by satisfying the following conditions.

• Connecting the TV and audio system using a digital optical cable

• Setting [Digital audio out] to [PCM]

As I expect Marino well knows, either or both of using Optical Out instead of HDMI eARC Out, and using PCM instead of Bitstream will severely compromise what the Sonos can achieve, soundwise, with the resulting signal.

But don’t take my word for it. Instead, get your best-sounding BluRay disc, with a DTS-X or Dolby Digital soundtrack, and, forgetting the TV speakers for the moment, play it on Bitstream out of the ARC  HDMI into the Sonos, and then play it on PCM out of the Optical into the Sonos, with the TV speakers turned off, and compare the audio quality in each case, with particular reference to the audio soundstage produced.

Then play the disc out of the TV speakers alone, Bitstream and PCM in turn, and again note the audio soundstage produced.

Finally, use the TV speakers, plus the Sonos via PCM over Optical.

See which of these 5 options you prefer the sound of. And, perhaps as importantly, see which of these options are straightforward to manage, and which have you balancing separate volume controls, and having to manage explicitly switching to and from.

Thank you both of your solutions and I will put these methods to the test.

I only confirmed the possibility of using an Audio System together with the TV Speakers... And how... 🤗
