I know that xperia U connects to pc as a portable media player. Is there any way connecting it as mass storage device?
connecting as mtp device limits it's usage
*.customizing the folder is not possible.
*I cant even sort as i want
*when ever i copy a document it shows an error that device may not be able to open file. (and even for many vedeos )
* other copying softwares (Tera copy) won't work
*I can't see the memory usage statistics(using disk explorering software)
And many times it won't even detected by computer, i have to struggle for some time to make it work everytime.

hmm... apparently i'm the only one who gets the OP's question...
MTP mode = current way of connecting the phone to the PC (it shows up as a device XPERIA U with no drive letter assigned)
MSC (Mass storage) mode = the way the phone connects to the PC like any other usb stick, ext hdd, etcetc...

currently the only way to go about it is outlined here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1606940
however, u will need a rooted phone...
For all video formats use Moboplayer in mobile. Xperia is best with MP4. WHy not convert vidoes to that format before moving. Use TotalVideoConvertor. Good Luck. Arnab.
I know, there are many players that play all kind of videos,
Please read my query again you didn't get what I've asked.
I wrote that it's not easy to manage files with mtp connection mode.
which OS do you have on your computer? your computer should be able to connect fine with your Xperia U, try installing SUS or PCC > run it and your PC will look for the correct drivers
Update Service (SUS)

That's not the problem I posted. I'm able to connect my xperia u to my pc(even though I have to struggle for some time restartingeither mobile or pc or both) and all the drivere are installed without any errors.
But the device is connected in mtp mode (as a portable media player) which is not good to manage files
I'm using Windows7 Homepremium.
Sorry about my language,i don't want to abuse anyone but what else can I do to express my frustration ? Sony's technical support members don't know anything, and in this forum support members don't even reply anything but my post will be marked "ASSUMED ANSWERED" after few useless replies.
This is not the only problem I have and this is not the only thread I started.

thanks a lot, this is kind of answer i expected.
It requres the phone to be rooted, so I'm not trying it right now.
My problem is that my Xperia u does not have the Mass storage option. It only has Mass tranfer.
I recently deleted a few really important pictures from my phone and i need to retrieve them. However, all the restoring softwares require the mass storage option that seems to be missing on this phone. Kindly help.
