How to restart Sony xperia sp when it gets hang up

My phone Sony xperia SP hangs up and unable to restart the device. It is really hard to be like tat for long time. Pls anyone help me ASAP.

If i turn the off button of the Sony experia SP will the data's still be there on phone?

Yes,it will force it to turn off only.

the methods provided were of great help. Had been trying to restrart my cell by holding the swith button for a long time. Then pressing the off slot after removing the cover worked. Thanks a ton!

Is it just me or does anyone else find it unacceptable that a reasonable quality smartphone from a reputable company like Sony keeps "hanging" so frequently that this thread is still running after two years?  I bought my SP from the Sony Outlet store (online) in July this year and have had to reset it so frequently that it has become second nature.  

That should NOT be the case.  As far as I am concerned the item is not of merchantable quality.

Related to this is the frequent lag that occurs.

My Xperia got hanged up . I tried all the possible ways to restart it, but all in vain, I also tried pressing and holding different combinations of hardware buttons,but it's still not working out. Later it got drained out of battery and since then its not even rebooting.

Please help!
