Xperia SP keeps restarting after gmail upgrade

I updated gmail in xperia sp and the phone keeps on rebooting, i cant turn it off completely. it continued till it drains my 80%  remaining battery and now the phone is kinda dead. faced this problem for the first time in any of my sony smartphones, very disppointing :(. any help would be much appreciated!

Hi, see if you can uninstall and reinstall Gmail update. If this did not resolve the rebooting issue, suggest you software repair phone with Update Service.

Be aware that software repair will erase phone data completely.

Hi.. thanks much for the suggestion, the problem is I cant access the mobile for uninstalling the gmail update it keeps on rebooting evry time without pressing the power key... It continues untill the battery get drained! I tried connecting the handset to sony update sevice for reinstalling the phone software however it doesnt detect even in my laptop..

I'm having the same problem with my xperia go, updated gmail app today (1st October) and the phone keeps restarting.

I'm having exactly the same problem with galaxy S4 😞

Just managed to get the phone to stay on (galaxy s4) by accessing drag down menu and turning off sync. Can do this in a second on s4 not sure if you have the same option on Sony??

Xperia sp too can't do anything even reset button won't work

I am having the same problem now...was so glad to see this thread but sad that there are no fixes! Is there anyway I can manually delete the gmail app without the phone starting? Or booting into recovery mode?
