The home screen is no longer displaying iPlayer Apps etc. I have internet connection. I have refreshed internet content (setup - network - refresh internet content) but error message 1002 comes up with advice to check network setup. When I do, and it tells me that connection is ok, that local access is ok and internet access is ok. I've turned the wifi on and off. Could someone please advise?

Can you please refresh the internet content in the network settings menu and see if it helps?

yes - but this is the message that comes up: "Configuration failed while connecting. There is no link, Please check the cables 1002. Select network set up to check you network settings."
Cables are connected. Network settings tells me all is fine.
Try connecting to a mobile hotspot or connect to the router over a LAN/Ethernet cable then try refreshing Internet content again.
In the end I turned off the TV and left it overnight. It was ok again the following morning.
