Hi @Cammyally

You are correct, the specification clearly states Teletext YES which I find surprising. Most modern TVs replaced it with the Red Button Service and it is now being replaced with the iPlayer.

Thank you...Disappointed but I will continue with the TV...we have always been faithful to Sony...I now need another little TV with it on.

Regards

Looking at that link, perhaps the KD43XH8196BU has been missed off the list of 2020 models that still behave like the 2018/2019 models, as in:-

Note: *2020 models KD-43XH85xx, KD-43XH9196, KD-49XH85xx, KD-49XH9196, KD-49XH9505 and KD-85XH9505 behave the same as 2018 and 2019 models.

It also suggests that you can get Teletext on the 2018/2019 models, and so presumably the 2020 models that work the same way, by disconnecting the TV from the internet:-

If your TV is NOT connected to the Internet and you press:

  • The RED key: Digital Teletext launches.
  • The Teletext key: Digital Teletext launches.

I’m not entirely convinced that this isn’t a typo for ‘does not launch’. But worth a try in your case. Though if it doesn’t work, we will never know if that’s because it’s a typo, or because you have a 2020 TV that works like a 2020 TV. Unless somebody with a TV from that list can try it?

Just for comparison, my 2020 LG43NANO796NE does not have a Teletext button, but does have Teletext and Teletext Option as settings under ‘More Actions’. But both do absolutely nothing, and so really shouldn’t be there.

On my 2015 Samsung JS9000, I can still get Teletext on BBC SD channels and BBC Radio channels, but not on BBC HD, and not on any non-BBC channels I have tried at all. It being internet-connected is no barrier to this.

Thanks very much royabrown2...I have tried everything now and also the Sony help line has told me it doesn't work.

My wife relys on teletext but we are staying with the TV...Sony helpline person didn't realise that they are the only company that doesn't provide teletext now.

But that’s not the case. My 2020 LG NANO, as described above, doesn’t do it either, and nor does my 2020 LG GX OLED.

Do you know of any 2020 and later sets, of any make, that do it?

The BBC announced about 2 years ago that the Red Button service would be discontinued in

2020, but due to protests that was put on hold.

It may be that TV manufacturers stopped the ability to connect to the Red Button service in its 2020

models when they heard it was to be discontinued, so that is perhaps why you cannot get it.

I have a 2018 Sony TV and the Red Button service is still available to me.

On occasion I have noticed that getting the Red Button service on the BBC HD channels does not work,

if I switch to the SD BBC equivalents then the Red button service is available. Perhaps you could try that.

There is the internet you know.

The Red Button service is obtained by pressing the red button, quite separate from what the Teletext button does or doesn’t do.

But I tried it yesterday, and all I got was live video of Wimbledon qualifying; no text or news service at all.

I tried it again today; this time I got Chris Packham and Springwatch, but still no news service.

Teletext is no longer available on modern Sony TVs, the only option now is the Red button services which is obtained by pressing on the red button on your remote.
