Need clarification about voice calling functionality on the Z4 SGP771 LTE+WIFI

Hi,

I am interested in purchasing the Z4 SGP771, however I would also like to be able to use it to make phones calls( not VOIP) via my T Mobile USA sim card which I use currently in my mobile phone. The SIM card is NANO and has voice and data capability.

Now the issue I have already encountered whilst researching is that some users for this model in the USA and other countries claim they can make voice calls via the in built dialler and some claim it cannot with a USA T Mobile sim card.

I have downloaded the Z4 white paper and it does not state which models can make the voice calls using the cellular network, but it merely states that in some markets this function is disabled. So which markets are they enabled or disabled in? and more importantly which model works for making voice calls?

I have so far seen two models available to me in the USA, SGP771 LTE+WIFI part number model : 13035541 and 43015809.

The 43015809 is the "international " version of the SGP771 LTE+WIFI,  and the 13035541 is US Specific version I believe.

Can someone that runs and supports this community forum please advise? Many thanks.

Xperia Z4 tablet has two models:

SGP771:Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet LTE

and

SGP712:Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet WiFi

the SGP771 is the one that supports voice calls

Hi,

Thanks for your response, but I was already aware that one needs the LTE version to make cellular voice calls.

According to the white pages for the model SGP771 LTE+WIFI  , depending on what markets throughout the world Sony sells this device, some have the phone dialler disabled and some do not. I would like to source an SGP771 LTE+WIFI that has the phone dialling enabled .

By looking at some photos on the internet there is more than just model numbers labelled on the box.

I would like a person that is in the know ( Sony rep would be nice ) to answer this pretty simple question, which SGP771 LTE models are voice call disabled and which are not?

Thank you.

My SGP771 can make calls dependant on sim inserted.
Obviously some networks sell the Z4 on mobile broadband contracts which do not permit voice calls so these users will report "mine won't make calls" but having put my regular contract sim inside the tablet I can confirm voice calls can be made.

Yes yours probably can, but perhaps I have not made myself clear. Sony also markets the same tablet for various other markets in the world SGP771 that does not have a dialler whatsoever. So my question is, I want the part numbers for the ones that have the dialler enabled .

Cheers

I have a feeling such limitation would be software based tbh.
I'll see what I can find out for you.

SGP-771 at a hardware level supports voice calls over its 4G/3G/2G capabilities. Where you see restrictions on using the voice calls feature, it is due to software versions restricting the use of the tablet to data/text only. This can be rectified by flashing a firmware from a region that has the dialler enabled.

How does one identify via product code which Z4 spg771 have the dialer enabled and which ones don't by model code? Why wouldn't Sony clarify or someone compile a list please?

Because the units as distributed by Sony have the hardware capability, it is the vendor or network choice to disable or leave the function enabled.
